The National Society of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) and Farm Credit are partnering together in 2016 to provide a unique personal and professional development opportunity to college students looking to pursue a career in agriculture.
Recipients of the Farm Credit VIP Scholarship Program will be awarded a total of $2,000, and be granted the opportunity to participate in the Farm Credit VIP Track on March 30, 2016 at the National MANRRS Career Fair & Training Conference in Jacksonville, Florida. Of the $2,000 award, $1,000 will go to conference registration, lodging and travel expenses, and a $1,000 academic scholarship will be applied to the recipient’s college tuition, room and board. Up to 20 scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The scholarship program will provide recipients with meaningful interactions with Farm Credit leadership, better preparing them for careers in the agriculture industry. Students will also be exposed to career opportunities with Farm Credit including finance, credit, capital markets, information technology and marketing.
The scholarship program is just one of the many ways Farm Credit has partnered with MANNRS over the years to help educate more than 1,400 student members, the majority of whom are African-American with smaller representations of Hispanic, Asian-American, Native American and Caucasian students. In addition to the sponsorship at the annual meeting, Farm Credit also helps students learn the softer skills needed to succeed in corporate and government areas, including resume and interview critiques.
In the words of one MANRRS member: "This organization gives more than just professional development opportunities to underrepresented students; it provides an avenue for students to change their lives through mentorship and empowers them to harness their own success."
Students interested in the Farm Credit VIP Scholarship Program are encouraged to apply now! The deadline for applications is Sunday, January 3, 2016.
