Veterans explore career pathways and job opportunities within the agriculture industry.
On Friday, January 19th, 11 active duty personnel, veterans and their spouses had the opportunity to get a glimpse of the agriculture industry through a military farm tour near Hillsborough County. Hillsborough County has such a large veteran population making this location perfect for the tour. The tour included stops at Aquatica Tropicals Incorporated, Dunn Diehl Farms, JayMar Produce, and the UF Gulf Coast Research and Education Center. Each stop allowed for the veterans to ask questions and learn about what it takes to run a farming operation.
Plant City-based loan officer Joseph Sweat joined these veterans on the tour and said, “I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the vets and enjoyed being able to explain the different aspects of agriculture financing to them. I also enjoyed hearing their ideas for start up farms.”
As the agriculture industry continues to intensify, the technology continues to enhance. With a drastic change in the technology used on a farm, there is a demand for skilled and experienced workers. We believe that these veterans bring the experience and knowledge to the industry that we are looking for.
It was a privilege to sponsor this event. The event was also supported by the Hillsborough County Economic Development, the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau, the Hillsborough County Extension Service, and the Mosaic Company.
