Winter Crops in Florida

Here at Farm Credit we encourage you to eat seasonal and local produce. Check out what’s in season this winter!

Eating fruits and vegetables that are in season offers you a number of benefits. Eating seasonally gives you the chance to eat the most nutritious, delectable produce possible. However, the benefits don’t stop there. When food is grown close to you it doesn’t spoil during its travel or lose its nutritional value. Another great benefit to eating seasonally is that you will often save money on your groceries. Food that’s in season costs a lot less for farmers and distributers to harvest and get to stores which causes the cost of the produce to go down. When you eat locally, you’re supporting your neighbor and giving directly to your local economy.

Next time you’re at the grocery store be on the look out for the products labeled “Fresh from Florida” to ensure you’re only selecting the freshest and tastiest food possible. If you’re not sure what’s in season this winter, check out the list of common fruits and vegetables below!
